In Dackegrottan, according to legend, the wounded Nils Dacke was hidden away from Gustav Vasa's troops.
Nils Dacke led the Småland farmers during the uprising against Gustav Vasa. With his peasant army he conquered the whole of Småland and was able to celebrate Christmas 1542 as a master at Kronoberg Castle. At Stegeborg in Östergötland, however, the peasant army was defeated by the king's soldiers
Dacke's peasants went south. On the ice of Lake Hjorten at Virserum stood the last decisive battle on Monday, March 20, 1543. Nils Dacke was wounded and his peasant army dissolved. According to legend, he was badly injured in the cave. He then fled to his home districts in Blekinge. Here he was betrayed by his own and captured and killed by lego nectars.
