40-year-old Clara is believed to have a special contact with God. She is a "saint" in a village in need of hope, while she herself finds comfort in nature. While the mother does everything she can to hold back Clara's development as a woman, she does not manage to stifle her sexual desire. When a young man appears in the family's life, a strong desire is aroused in Clara who leads her out on unexplored ground where she transcends both physical and supernatural boundaries.
