The year is 1948. Johanna (22) lives at Vipeholm Hospital together with other people with disabilities. One day she falls head over heels in love with Vilgot, another inmate. When the routines suddenly change and Vilgot becomes increasingly ill, Johanna begins to suspect that it may have something to do with an experiment.

The sugar experiment has a Swedish cinema premiere on February 10, 2023.
