Alkärret nature reserve is one of our most species-rich forest environments, and is popular with frogs, salamanders and other aquatic plants.

Thanks to the good nutritional availability and the varying humidity conditions, there are about 40 more or less threatened species. Marshmallow, cold and cabbage are some of the herbs that thrive here.

The Alkärret is an unusually nutritious swamp forest. The reason for this is a small bacterial-like fungus. This fungus gives rise to tuber formation in the roots of aliens and transforms the nitrogen of the air into its growth. This benefits all and gets a nutritional supplement through the bacteria. The excess nitrogen causes the sole to be the only Swedish tree species that can afford to cut green leaves.

Typical of the alcove are the bases on which the trees grow. These are clearly visible at low tide. Alsatian plinths are important places. At least for beetles and other insects that like to winter there. Here you will also find smaller woodpeckers, green singers and goodies.

The Alkärret municipal nature reserve has been completed with a grant from LONA - Local Environmental Conservation Initiative.

The investment is seen as an important step to further broaden and strengthen local and municipal commitment to Sweden's nature. The key words for the investment are, among other things, nature conservation benefits, local initiatives and local driving force, outdoor life, collaboration and partnership, public health and the preservation and accessibility of nature close to urban areas. Equality and integration aspects have also been linked to the grants.

The investment has been carried out as a state grant to local and municipal nature conservation projects where no more than 50 percent of the projects' grant-eligible measures could receive support.

The basic idea has been that the local ideas and wishes should be the driving force in the projects and that a number of different types of measures should be implemented. However, all projects have been covered by the requirement of connection to one or more of Sweden's environmental quality goals.

Also the plinths are important wintering grounds for beetles and other insects. They can also serve as a place of refuge in case of floods. Many mosses and ferns, such as may fern and marsh fern, thrive here. It is also not unusual for firs to start growing on the plinths.

The marsh is an attractive environment for bird species such as lesser woodpeckers, green warblers and wrens. Some feed on alder seeds and buds, while others build nests and look for food in the dead trees.

A very small nature reserve but quite a nice walk if you are waiting for the train or the bus for example... something to do anyway

The municipality has put so enormously little time and design around Alkärret so they are not something directly you would like to see again.
