Fröåsa hand paper mill is the only preserved hand paper mill in Sweden. In 1802, this mill was built about half a mile outside Virserum and became the town's first industry. At first printing and writing paper was produced, in later years they switched to coarser types of paper. In 1921, the paper mill was dismantled to be exhibited at the great exhibition in Gothenburg. Eventually the mill was brought back home and in 1950 was installed in Virserum's homestead park.

  • Fröåsa paper mill was the first industry in the countryside in 1802. It was erected at the Fröåsaströmmen in the Kråketorpsån.
  • During the first half of the 1800th century, printing and writing papers were made of lump. More recently, they switched to coarser types of paper. The raw material in the manufacture consisted of lump, that is, old clothes that were bought up by wandering lump dealers. The mill was in operation until 1921 when it was downgraded and moved to Gothenburg. There it was shown at the big exhibition which opened in 1923.
  • The mill could eventually be brought back to Virserum and rebuilt in the home park in 1950. During the summer, hand-forming of paper is shown and the same watermark is used as at the beginning of the 1800th century.
  • The park has larger and smaller buildings. In addition to Fröåsa, Reuben Nelson's Photo Studio is also located here. Many are the bridal couples and private individuals that he photographed during a long professional life.
  • Here is also Virserum's first motor-powered firearm drawn by horses. This was purchased in 1921 and was in use in the 1930s.
