The King's Bridge, located at Emån, was the 1612 war scene for one of Gustav II Adolf's first battles against the Danes.

The battle of Kungsbron

At King's Bridge in Järeda parish, Gustav II Adolf fought one of his first battles. It was also one of Kalmar County's busiest roads.

According to an inventory in the 1940s, the bridge was 75 meters long, consisting of 11 spans. The southern part of the bridge was already razed, at least two teams were believed to have disappeared.

During power station construction in Nyboholm and dredging work in Emån, excavation masses were laid on both sides of the bridge. Therefore, only a few of the bridge arches are visible.

The King's Bridge. Not much to see, but with a remarkable history. This bridge crosses the famous river Emån (Em river) on the main road between Jönköping and Kalmar. A wooden bridge was already built here in the Middle Ages and in 1612 the great Swedish king Gustav II Adolf's military killed 35 Danish soldiers here. Around 1800, a stone bridge was built with 14 arches, 11 of which are still intact, but many covered in mud after the river was dredged a few decades ago.
