Vena Church is one of the largest national churches in the diocese of Linköping. From the beginning, the church accommodated nearly 1200 people. After a couple of restorations when benches were removed, the church now holds about 700 people.

Vena Church was built at a rapid pace during the years 1797-1799 by the population of Vena parish. All parishioners who could were involved and worked.

The church was built around the old church building which was demolished when the new one was completed in 1799.

As early as August 16, 1798, the first service could be held when the church was completed with walls and ceilings "fixed without windows and all interior".

Work resumed in the spring of 1799 and on September 28, 1799, the church was completely finished.

The organ was commissioned in 1799 by the prominent organ builder Per Schiörlin from Linköping and was completed for the church's inauguration in 1803. The organ factory, which originally had 22 parts, has been expanded for most renovations.

Some of the original pipes still remain in the magnificent organ façade, which was designed by Schiörlin and executed by the sculptor A. Malmström.

Pulpit, number plates and two sculptures have been made by Jonas Berggren, a famous sculptor in eastern Småland during the 1700th century.

The large oil paintings that flank the altar depicting the crucifixion and resurrection were painted by flag lieutenant G. Lindblom from Kalmar in 1865.

The original cross was replaced with a new one during a renovation in 1954.

The church has a great architectural-historical value as one of the earliest examples in Sweden of a church building with certain parts in neo-Gothic style designed by the architect J Wulff.
