Välen is located in the middle of Stora Hammarsjön's FVO, approx. 7 km southwest of Hultsfred. The lake is managed by SFK Kroken, which regularly releases rainbow trout. You can find the lake if you drive towards the waste facility Kejsarkullen from road 34. When you have passed the railway, there is a sign for Välen straight ahead and then you just follow the signs. You can park when you arrive at the lake. It is very well arranged around the lake with jetties, wind shelters, barbecue areas and paths. Fishing is disabled-friendly with a disabled jetty and toilet.

Välen is a nutrient-poor lake surrounded by pine and spruce forests. The beaches are rocky and in some places the marshes dominate with rockets. Moss, pors, lingonberries and blueberries dominate the soil layer around the lake. The vegetation in the lake is sparse with catfish, water clover and water lilies.

Fishing in Välen is easy to do for everyone, regardless of prior knowledge. Around the lake there is a hiking trail and there are plenty of places to fish. The lake is lightly wad with waders and waders because it is shallow and the bottom is fixed by sand and gravel. As the lake is relatively large, it is worth trying around different places and using different methods. Floating is allowed to use and this can be effective as the fish goes far into the lake.

Some days the fishing goes best and other days spin fishing. Meta can be done with both bottom and float and good places for this fishing are all over the eastern side. Good fishing distance out of shore is some days 10 meters and good baits are worm and shrimp. Sometimes the fish goes farther out of shore and then you can float with a heavier float and thus throw longer.

Spinning fishing works well with small colorful spoons or spinners. The west side of the lake is good for spin fishing. If you want, there are boats to rent and then you can both spin fishing and fly fishing from a boat. Often you see rainbows waking and jumping in the surface and this you should pay attention to.

There are plenty of perch and pike in the lake, so these species can be found during rainbow fishing. There are also zigzag in the lake. They are good prey for the pike that can grow big. Sometimes you get the occasional bream on mete.
