The museum is a replica of a furniture factory from the 1920s. The old machines run with a belt drive and the shaft lines in the roof are driven by the large water wheel. The oldest machine is from 1895. Several of the machines are manufactured in Hjortöström, which is just outside Virserum.
In the 1940s, there were about manufacturers in the area. Virserum was then one of the country's major furniture metropolises. Crafted manufacture of high quality oak furniture and small series, was the strength of the countryside, but also became its fall.
The museum also shows how sculptors, upholsterers and residents worked. Upstairs there is a large exhibition of furniture made in Virserum. The museum also includes a smithy and a sawmill.
Today, no furniture industry remains in Virserum. The last factory was closed in winter 2008.

Worth seeing museum that remains from the time when Virserum was a center for the furniture industry. All these belt-driven machines that still work, very worth seeing. In addition, some old fine oak furniture is on display. Nice guide who started the machines so you could see how it worked. A visit is recommended.
Really fun to see a carpentry museum that showed an industrial period that has disappeared since the 1970s. All machines in fine condition that still worked powered by water.
